Sunday saw the end of Smash. And that made me sad. (So sad that I had to watch a few episodes of Broadway or Bust) Why? Because I love musicals. Seriously! I got a thrill when seeing this:
Yes, it's the Tony awards. I'm already planning snacks and beverages.
Then I thought about it. We have a perfectly good community theater here. I should audition. Actually, I saw the audition notice for the summer production of Les Miserables the day before the audition. If I had sheet music, I so would have.
So now I have a mission. I need audition music. What would be a good song, or few songs, for a mezzo soprano?
A pouty puppy. She didn't want me to go back to work.
I didn't want to go back to work either.
Are we talking Belter Mezzo, Lyric Mezzo, or Comic/Character Mezzo?
I'm totally not a belter. More character.... a little lyric
I need to go back into the studio and pull out my Mezzo books - I can get back to you with a list tomorrow?
D'OH!! This totally fell to the bottom of my inbox and got forgotten - my bad!! :-(
Okay, some lighter/less belt-y/lyric/comic Broadway Mezzo songs:
Adelaide's Lament - Guys and Dolls
Always True To You In My Fashion - Kiss Me Kate
As Long As He Needs Me - Oliver!
Don't Tell Mama - Cabaret
Funny Honey - Chicago
How Are Things In Glocca Morra? - Finian's Rainbow
I Cain't Say No - Oklahoma!
I know Things Now - Into the Woods
I'm Not That Girl - Wicked
In My Own Little Corner - Cinderella
Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee - Grease
Losing My Mind - Follies
Mama Who Bore Me - Spring Awakening
Maybe This Time - Cabaret
My New Philosophy - You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown
Take Back Your Mink - Guys and Dolls
Okay, that's a start, anyway. :-) <3
